California ain't free...

for decades, California has branded itself as a place with progressive politics, rich real estate and booming industries.

it's home to the rich and famous Hollywood industry; a world-famous real estate market; tech giants like Apple, Facebook and Instagram, Twitter, Google and Youtube; endless sandy beaches and a raging agricultural industry.

some people know that California is a bigger economic power on the world's stage than all of Great Britain. but not many people could easily answer the question:

"how'd California get so much power?"

this site seeks to offer information about this state's history and its current climate. Californians should know what's behind this state's economic power; we should all have access to vital information about state agencies, as well as private industries that steer our society.

thanks for reading ♥️

how can we free California from the crises we face now?

  • our education system has suffered without proper funding.

  • our healthcare system has been gutted also, and transformed like all other industries by corporate greed.

  • our housing crisis is being swept under the carpet by those entities, big and small, who benefit from displacing whole neighborhoods.

  • our state has a massive incarceration network that funnels innocent people into a dehumanizing system of detention.

we need to take a stand to abolish the prison industry, to house people, to feed people, to educate people, and to care for one another's health with purpose!

so how can I use this website?

  • the "california count" is a list of ALL detention facilities currently operating in the state of California, updated regularly. it's been impossible for me to find a list of all facilities listed on one page, which brought me to compile my own list. I believe this is an important resource for us as we advocate for abolishing the prison industrial complex that suffocates the state today.

  • the blog is a place to read articles I've written about many different California issues — like school spending, cattle ranching, or the way the tech industry in Silicon Valley affects global politics. the blog is normally updated each Sunday but I have taken a recent hiatus from updating the blog while I restructure the website.

why is it called IDK California?

"IDK" stands for "I don't know." "IDK California" signifies my own personal journey with getting to know my home state.
