population -

according to the United States Census Bureau, the population of California as of 2018 was 39,557,045 people, making it the top most populated state in the USA. California is also more populated than all but 35 countries in the world. by the year 2050, California is projected to reach a population of 50 million people.

economy - 

according to data published by the United States Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), California's total gross domestic product by the end of 2018 was about $3.018 trillion. that figure ranks Calfornia's GDP higher than that of the United Kingdom, which was about $2.83 trillion as of 2019 according to the International Monetary Fund.

history -

while the Indigenous peoples' history in the state of California dates back more than 10,000 years, California joined the USA only in 1850. this came after the land was ceded by Mexico following the Mexican-American war. so it's only been California for 169 years and it was something else before for a lot longer.

land use -

according to the California Governor's Office of Planning and Research, military base acreage makes up around 10% of California's land. according to the University of California Davis, over 25% of California's land is reserved for agricultural use.
